Can Food Really Cause This?

Adverse food reactions include food allergies, food sensitivities, and food intolerance and have been linked to many symptoms and conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, chronic-fatigue syndrome, attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorders, otitis media, psychiatric disorders, neurologic disorders, fibromyalgia, urticaria (hives), eczema, asthma, cough, and migraine headaches.

Food allergies and food intolerance tend to cause quick and obvious reactions, while food sensitivities cause delayed and complicated reactions.  If you or someone you love has been suffering for a long time and have been unable to find an explanation, there is a good chance that food sensitivities are involved.

I utilize Mediator Release Test (MRT) blood testing to find out which foods irritate your body, and maybe more importantly, which foods do not.  I then design your LEAP Protocol (eating plan) based on your food preferences (foods you already enjoy eating) and MRT results that will eliminate food sensitivity related symptoms and allow your intestines to heal.  We will then slowly begin adding back more food options.

Take a look at this sample MRT report to see what foods are tested and how it is presented:

Three Phase LEAP Protocol

The calming phase:
The eating plan begins with a 10 day calming phase that is limited to 20 - 25 foods/ingredients that test good (green on the test results) for you and that you already eat on a regular basis.  You should be close to symptom free by the end of these 10 days.

The healing phase:
Now we will give your digestive system time to heal (about 30 days), while we slowly introduce additional foods/ingredients that tested good (green or low yellow on the test results).

The final phase:
After you have calmed down your digestive system and then allowed it to heal, we will meet again and discuss a final eating plan and any further digestive system needs that you still have.  This final phase should prevent future symptoms, while allowing for enough variety to achieve optimal health.
