Elderberries are small, dark purple berries that have been well researched for their antiviral properties.

Benefits

  • Boosts Your Immune System (increases and improves your natural immune response)
  • Antimicrobial Properties (fights the bad bugs)
  • High in Antioxidants (repairs damage)
  • Decreases Upper Respiratory Symptoms from Colds and Flu
  • High in Vitamins A, C, E, Potassium, & Fiber

Potential Side Effects

  • Raw elderberries may be poisonous and cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea - cooking is required.  When using one of our Nourishing Blends, you can cook, bake, or brew some into your coffee, tea, oatmeal, cookies, etc.
  • Avoid if you have a known allergy to elder or plants in the Caprifoliaceae (honeysuckle) family.

Saftey First

  • When eating foods in a powdered, juiced, or extracted form it is easy to eat more than you typically would.  I suggest eating 1/2 tsp - 1 Tbsp of any one particular Nourishing Blend per day.  In other words, don't have the same Nourishing Blend in your smoothie for breakfast, in a cookie for dessert at lunch, and make homemade healthy ice cream with it after dinner - mix it up a bit by using a variety of Nourishing Blends.
  • As with all nutritionally powerful foods, it is best to check with your doctor if you are taking prescription medications.  Some foods may increase or decrease the effectiveness of certain medications.
  • As always, if you are pregnant or a nursing mother, it is best to check with your doctor before making any major changes to your diet or lifestyle.
