Back in 2010 when I first started learning about nutrition, I was inspired to change my lifestyle. I began eating way more fruits and vegetables and working out. The problem was that it seemed like every time I worked out I would get sick and then not be able to work out for several days. When I finally felt good again, I would excitedly workout and then get sick again. It was ridiculous and I was getting nowhere but frustrated fast.
I did some research and found out that if your nutrients are close to deficient, then working out can push them over the edge (basically any stress can use up your nutrients, whether it is physical or emotional and whether it is good or bad). This means that I would not have the needed nutrients to fight off a cold and I would get sick.
So, I had my micro-nutrients tested and it turns out that I was extremely deficient in Zinc and Magnesium. Zinc is all about the immune system, so no wonder I was getting sick all of the time. And Magnesium plays an important role in energy production, which explained my lack of overall energy that I had come to accept as normal.
I began correcting my deficiencies immediately and was surprised to see how fast my body began to recover. I also learned to slowly build up my working out, and even though it felt silly and frustrating, it worked!
Now I can tell when my body is fighting off a cold, but am able to continue on with normal life. Not only do I get less colds, but they no longer stop me in my tracks.
